South Korea’s National Assembly marked the first anniversary of then-President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed attempt to impose martial law on Dec. 3 last year with “dark tours” Wednesday, during which participants view parts of the compound associated with the crisis.

An event was held in front of the National Assembly to commemorate last year’s martial law bid, where parliament speaker Woo Won-shik served as a guide to the tours, according to the Chosun Daily.

A photo exhibition was also held at the location, where various photographs of last year’s events were displayed.

Yoon imposed martial law on Dec. 3, 2024, but the National Assembly overturned it within around six hours.

The National Assembly voted to impeach Yoon and suspend his presidential powers on Dec. 14, 2024, following his controversial, short-lived declaration of martial law.

In January, Yoon was arrested and indicted for leading an insurrection, making him the first sitting president to be kept in custody.

In March, he was released after a court order.

The former president was ousted by the Constitutional Court in April.

In July he was again arrested and remains in custody.

Lee Jae Myung, who was the leader of the opposition Democratic Party at the time of the martial law crisis, was elected president in a snap election in June this year.
