Serie A: Napoli sack Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti

ANKARA

Italian football club Napoli dismissed Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday over poor results in the Serie A.

The decision was announced hours after Napoli's 4-0 victory over Genk that moves the Italian club to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

''SSC Napoli has taken the decision to part ways with first-team coach Carlo Ancelotti. The friendship and mutual respect between the club, President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact,'' the club said in a statement.

Despite Napoli's qualification for the round of 16 in the Champions League, the Italian club disappointed their fans over poor performance in the Serie A.

Last season's runners-up currently sit in the seventh spot on the table after collecting 21 points with a seven-match winless run.

The Naples club's fans have not seen a Napoli victory in Serie A since a 2-0 home defeat of Verona on Oct. 19.
