Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone Monday with his US counterpart Donald Trump about the conflict in Iran and trilateral negotiations with Ukraine, said Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.

The call was initiated by Trump and lasted about an hour, according to the Kremlin statement, which called the conversation “businesslike, frank and constructive.”

"The focus, naturally, was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and the ongoing trilateral negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement, with the participation of US representatives," Ushakov said.

Putin “expressed a number of considerations aimed at a speedy political and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian conflict,” he said.

“In turn, the US president provided his assessment of the developing situation in the context of the ongoing American-Israeli operation. I note that a very substantive and, I believe, useful exchange of views took place on this matter,” he underlined.

According to Ushakov, Trump reiterated his interest in a swift ceasefire and a long-term resolution in Ukraine.

The two leaders also discussed Venezuela, primarily in terms of the state of affairs on the global oil market.

Ushakov emphasized that Putin and Trump hadn’t spoken by phone since the end of December 2025, adding they expressed a readiness to maintain regular communications.
