Pandemic claims 8 lives in Libya, 5 in Sudan

ISTANBUL 

Health authorities in Libya and Sudan on Monday confirmed additional fatalities due to the coronavirus pandemic.


In a statement, Libya’s National Center for Disease Control said eight people had died from COVID-19 and 434 others tested positive.


The country’s tally now rose to 8,172 confirmed cases, including 153 deaths, and 933 recoveries.


In Sudan, the Health Ministry recorded five deaths along with 62 infections and 35 recoveries.


The country's total infections now stand at 12,410, including 803 deaths, and 6,385 recoveries.


The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed over 775,500 lives in at least 188 countries and regions since last December.


Over 21.69 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the highest numbers in the US, Brazil, India, and Russia, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.


The data shows more than half of all patients worldwide – over 13.68 million – have recovered so far.
