Over 100 kg of marijuana seized in southeastern Turkey

Provincial gendarmerie forces also find, destroy materials for making explosives

BINGOL, Turkey 

Security forces in southeastern Turkey seized 102 kilograms (224 pounds) of marijuana, along with ammunition and personal possessions belonging to PKK terrorists, local officials said on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Bingol provincial governor's office, gendarme units carried out an operation in the province's southern rural areas.

"102 kilograms of marijuana, nine hand-made explosives receiver, 50 meters [164 feet] of cable, 100 batteries, solar panels, two accumulators, two sleeping-bags, first aid equipment and organizational documents were seized during the operation," said the statement.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
