Number of coronavirus cases in Qatar rises to 262

DOHA, Qatar

Qatar's Health Ministry confirmed Wednesday 238 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 262.

The infected are under quarantine and recovering well, the ministry said in a written statement.

On Tuesday, the ministry banned shisha, or hookah smoking pipes, in restaurants and cafes until further notice in line with new measures to curb the virus.

The government announced Monday the suspension of classes in public and private schools and universities until further notice.

Last week, Qatar also announced temporarily banning the entry of travelers from 14 countries due to concerns over the coronavirus.

The ban includes Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Thailand.

Qataris were also advised not to visit those countries unless it is absolutely necessary.
