Meeting of partner states' advisers possible in Kyiv despite changes in US administration: Ukraine

ISTANBUL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a meeting of national security advisers from partner countries may still take place in Kyiv, despite recent changes in the US administration.

“There’s a positive development—the advisers have agreed to meet. That’s important,” Zelenskyy told journalists in Kyiv on Saturday, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

However, he noted that no specific date has been confirmed due to internal changes in Washington.

When asked if the meeting depended on the appointment of a new US national security adviser, Zelenskyy said current responsibilities are assigned to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“I don’t think anyone is going to wait for a new official to be appointed—that’s my sense,” he added.

US President Donald Trump accepted the resignations of National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong. Waltz was appointed US ambassador to the UN, while Rubio was designated as acting national security adviser.
