The leaders of Jordan and Lebanon called Tuesday for halting Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, rejecting Palestinian displacement from the territory.

Jordanian King Abdullah II met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who arrived in Amman early Tuesday on an official visit.

A statement by Jordan’s royal court said talks between the two leaders dwelt on bilateral relations and regional developments.

They called for an immediate halt to the Israeli war on Gaza and access to adequate humanitarian aid to all areas in the enclave, the statement said.

The two leaders also affirmed their rejection “of any plans to displace Palestinians and the need to intensify Arab and international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.”

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s support for Lebanon’s efforts “to preserve its stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement said.

Upon his arrival in Amman, Aoun told the Jordanian state news agency Petra that his talks in Jordan would take up a host of issues, including regional developments, support for the Lebanese army, and the issue of Syrian refugees.

"These discussions come at a critical juncture for our region," he said, stressing the need for "unified Arab efforts to address joint crises, combat terrorism, and preserve stability."

Aoun said his talks in Jordan would also address military cooperation and find "a just solution" for the Syrian refugees burdening both nations, including "their safe and dignified return to their country."

The Lebanese leader hailed Jordan's firm support for his country in various fields.
