Kenya: 8 more killed, more than 300 COVID-19 infections

ANKARA

Kenyan officials Thursday confirmed eight additional coronavirus deaths and 335 new infections in tests conducted in last 24 hours.

The deaths bring total fatalities from the virus to 1,702, the health ministry tweeted.

New infections were detected from a sample size of 5,424 tests and brought that figure to 97,733.

Authorities have conducted 1,075,673 tests in a country of nearly 55 million people.

The ministry also confirmed 340 recoveries, bringing the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 to 80,306.

The virus has claimed more than 1.88 million lives in 191 countries and regions since first being detected in Wuhan, China last December, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University.

More than 87.5 million people have been infected.
