Kazakhstan's Defense Ministry on Thursday announced the starting of KazInd-2021, a joint military exercise with India.

The drill, defined as "cooperation in the crisis area under the UN mandate" by the ministry, is being carried out at the border of southeastern Jambyl province.

Troops of both countries will exercise various war techniques and coordination, and reconnaissance activities, said the ministry. The training will end on Sept. 10.

Separately, India's Defense Ministry said "the contingent comprises 120 troops from Kazakhstan and 90 soldiers from the Indian Army."

"This exercise will provide impetus to the ever growing military and diplomatic ties between the two nations," it said in a statement.
