Italy and its fellow EU member states will look at putting new sanctions on violent Israeli settlers following an attack on a Christian village in the West Bank, Italy’s foreign minister said Monday.

"We will evaluate, together with European Union partners, the adoption of new sanctions against the violent settlers," Antonio Tajani wrote on X after Israeli settlers attacked the West Bank village of Taybeh.

He pointed to the Israeli government's duty to act, stop the "incursions," and protect Palestinian citizens including both Christians and Muslims.

"Italy stands with the victims of this attack and reaffirms its commitment to a cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the West Bank," Tajani added.
