Italian police raid Milan City Hall in real estate corruption probe
Investigation targets large-scale real estate projects that reshaped Milan’s urban landscape in last 3 years, says media reports

ISTANBUL
Italian financial police raided Milan’s City Hall as part of a corruption probe Wednesday targeting the urban planning office and major real estate projects that have reshaped the city’s skyline, media reported.
The operation, directed by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office, involved searches at multiple locations, including the municipal headquarters, according to the Italian news agency, ANSA. Six people were placed under detention orders as part of the investigation.
Among those under investigation are Giancarlo Tancredi, head of Milan’s urban redevelopment office, and Manfredi Catella, founder and chief executive of the Coima real estate firm, which is behind several of the city’s largest projects. Police searched homes and offices.
Renowned architect Stefano Boeri, known for designing the “Vertical Forest” towers in Milan, is also being investigated, though no precautionary measures have been taken against him, ANSA reported.
The investigation focuses on large-scale redevelopment projects carried out over the last three years.
Allegations include bid rigging and false declarations tied to the European Library of Information and Culture (BEIC), as well as zoning violations in the Bosconavigli project, a major housing and commercial complex.
The case has increased political pressure on Mayor Giuseppe Sala. Representatives of the Brothers of Italy and the Five Star Movement in the city council urged his resignation following news of the raid.
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who also heads the far-right League party, said he viewed the situation “with concern and dismay.”
He called for full transparency in judicial proceedings and voiced “serious discontent” with the city administration’s performance, which he said “has long slowed the city’s development.”
