An Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle on a road in Kfar Rumman district in Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon on Tuesday evening, killing one civilian and injuring three others, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, marking a new violation of a ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that the attack took place on Universities Road between Kfar Rumman and Nabatieh.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed concern about the escalating tensions, saying in a recent bulletin that while southern Lebanon has experienced relative calm, “stability is still uncertain.”

UNIFIL also expressed concern “about ongoing violations of Resolution 1701, including the presence of Israeli forces in Lebanon and weapons caches found by peacekeepers.”

The resolution, adopted by the UN Security Council on Aug. 11, 2006, called for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel. It also called for the establishment of a weapons-free zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, excluding the Lebanese army and UNIFIL.

A fragile ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon since November, ending months of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah, which escalated into a full-scale conflict in September.

Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the truce, including the deaths of nearly 200 people and injuries to around 500.

Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26 under the ceasefire deal, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. It still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
