Heavy rains have destroyed at least 500 homes in Kasai province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, displacing at least 2,500 people.

Three days of rains destroyed homes in the villages of Kambamba and Bulape, said Pius Mapingo, a security officer in Kasai.

“Heavy rainstorms tore off the roofs of the houses in Kambamba and Bulape villages. People are now living in the open and there is a humanitarian situation. There are at least 530 houses destroyed, leaving at least 2,500 inhabitants homeless,” the president of the non-governmental organization Small Donation to Humanity, Marie-Claire Mutanda, said in a media interview.

Mutanda called on the government to come to the aid of the affected people.
