Asylum seeker claimed to be scalded by Greek border police

EDIRNE, Turkey

An asylum seeker said Monday a Greek border guard poured boiling water on him as he attempted to enter the country.

Abdulmuttalib Ulimuhammed, 21, was crossing the land border through Turkey's Edirne province.

The Afghan national is getting treatment for burn injuries on his face and legs at a Turkish hospital.

"May Allah bless Turkish people," he told Anadolu Agency.

Blaming the EU for failing to keep its promises to help asylum seekers, Turkey recently loosened its policy on irregular migration, allowing them to seek entrance into Europe.

Turkey currently hosts over 3.7 million Syrians, making it the world's top refugee-hosting country.
