French data protection watchdog fined Amazon €32 million ($34.7 million) on Tuesday for “setting up an excessively intrusive system for monitoring employee activity and performance."

"The company was also fined for video surveillance without information nor sufficient security," the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) said about Amazon's France warehouses unit (Amazon France Logistique).

Measuring accurately work interruptions and "potentially" asking employees to justify breaks was "illegal," according to CNIL.
