LUSAKA, Zambia
Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu died Thursday in South Africa. He was 68.
His daughter, Tasila, announced his death at the Medforum clinic -- a Pretoria-based medical center where he had been staying for medical supervision in recent weeks.
"His condition was managed with dignity and privacy," she said in a recorded statement.
Lungu, a lawyer, was the country's sixth president and ruled from 2015 to 2021 before losing to incumbent Hakainde Hichilema.
He was the country's only surviving former head of state.
