AFYON, Turkey

Racing in western Turkey on Tuesday, Kiara Fontanesi of Italy squeaked into the top spot, just 0.05 seconds ahead of Courtney Duncan of New Zealand in the first race of the Women's Motocross World Championship (WMX).

Fontanesi won the first race in Afyon, Turkey with a time of 24:58.447, with her opponent Duncan breathing down her neck with 24:58.497.

The top two riders in the championship classification continue their battle for second place, as Courtney Duncan leads the classification with 154 points, followed by Kiara Fontanesi with 142 points.

Nancy Van De Ven of the Netherlands took third place in the first race with a time of 25:43.031.

There are two more legs to be held in the WMX, in Spain and Trentino, Italy, on Oct. 17 and 31, respectively.
