Eurasia countries report new COVID-19 cases

KIEV

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian countries on Wednesday.

According to Kazakhstan’s Health Ministry, COVID-19 cases rose to 86,192, with 1,544 new additions over the past 24 hours whereas recovery count climbed to 56,638.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has directed extension in coronavirus-related restrictive measures for another two weeks.

The country's death toll stands at 793, whereas more than 28,000 people are being held under treatment.

Ukraine

Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov announced that the number of registered cases rose to 67,597, with 1,022 new cases reported over the past day.

Stepanov said 21 more citizens lost their lives due to the virus, bringing the death toll to 1,650.

According to the health minister, 8,509 of the patients are health professionals in the country, where more than 37,000 people have so far recovered from the virus.

Currently, 28,553 people are receiving medical care.

Kyrgyzstan

Aynura Akmatova, a Health Ministry official, said coronavirus cases and deaths rose to 34,512 and 1,347 respectively.

Over 23,000 people have recovered from the virus, whereas about 10,000 people are still under treatment.

Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry said the number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 22,169, with 470 new additions over the past 24 hours, and the death toll hit 127.

The ministry said recovery count reached 12,265, as 239 more people recovered from the disease.

A total of 9,777 people are currently receiving treatment in the country.

Armenia

According to Armenian Health Ministry data, official COVID-19 cases reached close to 38,000, with 308 new additions over the past day.

Four more people died of the virus, bringing the death toll to 723.

So far, Armenia has conducted more than 160,000 coronavirus tests; nearly 28,000 people have recovered from the virus, while over 9,000 are currently being treated.

Georgia

In a statement, Georgian officials said that registered number of cases in the country neared 1,200 as a dozen more people tested positive for the novel virus.

A total of 929 people recovered from the virus in the country where the death toll was reported at 16.

In addition, 6,489 people were put under quarantine and 337 others are kept under surveillance.

Since first appearing in China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed nearly 661,000 people worldwide, with more than 16.76 million confirmed cases, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University. Nearly 9.77 million people have recovered from the disease.
