Egyptian president calls for consolidating Iran-Israel ceasefire
Egyptian, Iranian president speak over phone after ceasefire between Tehran, Tel Aviv

ISTANBUL
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called Wednesday for solidifying a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to a presidency statement, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s “firm rejection” of a recent Iranian missile attack targeting Qatar, condemning “any acts that violate the sovereignty of states, especially those of the Arab and Islamic brotherly countries.”
He welcomed a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel and stressed the importance of “consolidating and adhering to this agreement in light of the regional escalation that nearly plunged the region into chaos and widespread violence.”
The two leaders agreed that the current phase “requires pushing toward comprehensive political solutions and adopting approaches that take into account the various dimensions related to regional security,” the statement said.
They also emphasized the importance of resuming the Iranian-US negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, addressing concerns related to nuclear non-proliferation, and advancing efforts to establish a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
Pezeshkian, for his part, appreciated Egypt’s “wise and supportive positions toward restoring stability in the region and its efforts to stop the bloodshed among all parties,” the statement said.
Israel launched airstrikes on several sites across Iran on June 13, including military and nuclear facilities, alleging that Tehran was on the verge of producing a nuclear bomb, a claim vehemently denied by Iran.
While Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes, the US joined the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday.
After 12 days of aerial combat between the two regional arch-foes, US President Donald Trump on Monday announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran to end their conflict.
