The death toll in Africa from the novel coronavirus topped 11,000 Saturday, according to a statistics website.

Fatalities on the continent now stand at 11,117 while 466,168 patients are infected, according to data from Worldometer.

A total of 224,808 patients recovered from the virus.

The most affected countries are Egypt, South Africa and Algeria.

There are 3,280 deaths in Egypt, 3,026 in South Africa and 946 in Algeria.

Countries with the highest number of cases are South Africa with 187,977, Egypt with 74,035 and Ghana with 28,167.

No deaths have been reported in Seychelles, Eritrea, Uganda, Namibia and Lesotho.

Since first appearing in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions.

The US, Brazil, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed more than 530,100 people worldwide, with an excess of 11.2 million confirmed cases and greater than 6 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
