COVID-19 claims 20 lives in Egypt, 4 in Tunisia

ANKARA 

Health authorities in Egypt and Tunisia have registered additional fatalities due to the coronavirus pandemic.


In a statement issued early Monday, the Egyptian Health Ministry said 20 deaths and 148 infections were recorded, taking the country’s tally to 100,856 cases, including 5,627, and 83,261 recoveries.


In Tunisia, the Health Ministry said four people had died, taking the overall death toll to 107, while 376 people were sickened, raising the total infections to 6,635.


Since first being detected in Wuhan, China in December, COVID-19 has claimed more than 924,000 lives in 188 countries and regions.


The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.


Over 29 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 19.6 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
