COVID-19 cases in Central Asia, Eurasia on rise

KYIV, Ukraine

More than 14,500 coronavirus cases and nearly 250 deaths were reported across Eurasia and Central Asia on Wednesday. 


Ukraine

Ukraine registered 10,611 new cases and 191 fatalities over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 489,808, including 8,947 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 6,802 to reach 221,459, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

Some 1,453 patients were admitted to hospitals over the past day, he said.

More than 73,000 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, the minister added.

Georgia

Georgia’s COVID-19 case tally surged by 1,696 over the past day, reaching 37,304.

At least 45 more patients died, the highest number of daily deaths so far, moving the toll to 566, while recoveries rose by 2,421 to stand at 49,811.

Some 16,158 patients, including 632 in critical condition, have been receiving treatment in the country.

It is reported that Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia is also among those who have recovered from the virus.

Kazakhstan

A total of 568 more COVID-19 cases have raised Kazakhstan’s overall count to 117,904, according to the Health Ministry.

Six patients died over the past day, moving the death toll to 1,911, while 218 more recoveries pushed the total to 108,387.

As many as 7,606 patients, including 393 children, are in hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, some of the lockdown measures have loosened up in Almaty, the most crowded province of Kazakhstan.

It was decided that schools with up to 300 students in the city should continue education, provided that classes do not exceed 15 students.

According to the decision, starting Nov. 10, theaters in the city were allowed to operate on 50% occupancy rate.

Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan reported 78 more infections over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 69,173.

One more fatality moved the death toll to 589, while recoveries rose by 102 to reach 66,433, bringing the recovery rate to 96%, the Health Ministry said.

Some 2,151 COVID-19 patients remain under treatment in the country.


Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan registered 400 new cases and three fatalities over the past day, raising the overall count to 64,360, including 1,188 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 532 to reach 55,306, according to the Health Ministry.

A total of 2,851 coronavirus tests were conducted in the country over the last 24 hours.

As many as 3,850 COVID-19 patients are being treated at home, while 3,347 patients are in hospitals.
