Coronavirus cases in Africa surpass 26,000

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia 

COVID-19 cases in 52 African countries now total 26,144, according to an Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention update on Thursday evening.

The number of total deaths across the continent came in at 1,247, it said.

According to the update, so far 7,033 patients have recovered.

Egypt and South Africa registered 3,700 COVID-19 cases each.

In North Africa, Morocco registered 3,015 cases, while Algeria identified 2,900.

Ethiopia said no COVID-19 cases were found in the last 24 hours, during which the Horn of Africa Country tested 965 people, according to Dr. Liya Kebede, the health minister.

However, Ethiopia, with a total population of 110 million, is among the countries in the world listed at the bottom in terms of testing capacities.

Ethiopia has so far identified 116 cases with three deaths and nine recoveries.
