The village of Lytton in the province of British Columbia recorded an all-time high temperature for Canada of 46.1 C (114.98 F) on Sunday.

"The daytime maximum could be higher, so stay tuned for the official recording," ECCC Weather British Columbia, Canada’s official weather and climate source, said on Twitter.

The previous record was 45 C set on July 5, 1937, at Yellow Grass and Midale, Saskatchewan, the agency said.

British Columbia's old record was documented in 1941 at 44.4 C.

While western territories of Canada are under heat warnings, some relief is expected by the end of this week.
