Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,356.96 points on Monday, down by 1.55% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,378.63 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 21.32 points from Friday's close of 1,378.28 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,355.23 points, while its daily high was 1,382.45 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.01 trillion Turkish liras ($117.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 11.76 billion Turkish liras ($1.36 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, eight stocks on the index rose, 87 declined, and five were flat compared to Friday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron and steel producer Kardemir, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of pipe and tube producer Erbosan posted the largest rise with 8%, while stocks of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv dropped the most, 5.92%.

One ounce of gold was traded at $1,802.00 by market close, up from $1,800.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.17 per barrel as of 6.42 p.m. local time (1542GMT).
