Belgium's Clijsters face early exit from US Open

ANKARA

A former world number one in tennis, Kim Clijsters from Belgium upset her fans after an early exit from the 2020 US Open on Tuesday.

Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova beat Clijsters with the sets of 3-6, 7-5 and 6-1 in women's singles round one.

Clijsters, 37, retired in 2012 but returned to the game this year.

She was a three-time US Open champion (2005, 2009 and 2010).

Clijsters had a wildcard to play in the Grand Slam tournament in the US.

Williams seeking 24th Grand Slam title

US tennis veteran Serena Williams, 38, won against fellow American Kristie Ahn with the sets of 7-5 and 6-3 to be in the second round.

World No. 8, Williams won 23 Grand Slams.

Williams claimed six US Open titles (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014).

Murray comes back against Nishioka

A famed British tennis player, Andy Murray came back from 2-0 deficit to defeat Japanese opponent Yoshihito Nishioka in the US Open's first round.

Murray, 33, won the epic match with the sets of 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 as the game lasted for four hours and 39 minutes.

He was a three-time Grand Slam winner.
