ASEAN leaders said on Tuesday that the bloc remains dedicated to assist Myanmar in finding find a peaceful and lasting solution to its ongoing crisis.

“We are committed to assisting Myanmar in finding a peaceful and durable solution to the ongoing crisis,” the leaders said in a joint statement, reiterating that the Five-Point Consensus reached in 2021 after the military coup that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi continues to serve as the primary framework for resolving the country's political crisis.

"We urge all parties to immediately cease acts of violence against civilians and public facilities," the statement said, calling on all relevant parties to exercise restraint and ensure civilian safety.

The bloc urged for continued extension and nationwide broadening of the ceasefire in Myanmar, calling on all parties to guarantee the safe, timely, efficient, and transparent distribution of ASEAN humanitarian aid.

The warring parties in Myanmar agreed to the truce, which was extended until May 31, to mitigate the fallout of an earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28, killing 3,800 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless.

The consensus on Myanmar, also known as 5PC, calls for end to violence, delivery of humanitarian assistance, dialogue among all parties, the appointment of a special envoy, and the envoy's direct engagement with all stakeholders.
