Armenia targets Turkish news team in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan

A team from Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on Sunday came in the line of fire during a cross-border attack by the Armenian army on Azerbaijan.

Anadolu Agency reporters went to the border areas in the wee hours of the morning to monitor the attacks on Azerbaijani civilian settlements.

Two drones were spotted near the Kapanli village where the reporters were working.

Shortly after, the Armenian army fired mortar shells which landed within a 100-meter radius from the reporters' work station.

The team also had reporters from TRT, Turkey's state-run news channel.

The reporters who threw themselves behind a vehicle escaped the attack by the fraction of a second.

Amid the shower of bullets, the team got into the vehicle and fled the scene.

Border clashes broke out early Sunday after Armenian forces opened fire targeting Azerbaijani civilian settlements.

Earlier in July, Armenian cease-fire violations martyred 12 Azerbaijani troops and wounded four others.

Relations between the two former Soviet nations have been tense since 1991 when Armenian military illegally occupied the Upper Karabakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh region, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.

Four UN Security Council and two UN General Assembly resolutions as well as decisions by many international organizations refer to this fact and demand the withdrawal of the occupying Armenian forces from Upper Karabakh and seven other occupied regions of Azerbaijan.
