Seven soldiers were killed in an attack by the Boko Haram terror group in northeastern Nigeria, media reports said Saturday.

Militants targeted troops in the Konduga area of Borno state, resulting in the deaths of seven soldiers, while several others were injured and taken to a hospital.

Boko Haram, active in Nigeria since the early 2000s, has staged deadly attacks since 2009 that have killed tens of thousands of victims.

The group has also expanded assaults to neighboring Cameroon, Chad and Niger since 2015, killing at least 2,000 people in the Lake Chad Basin region.

Violence and armed clashes have forced hundreds of thousands of residents to flee their homes across Nigeria.
