24 states sue Trump administration over pause in after-school education funding: Report The Supreme Court of the United States

WASHINGTON

Twenty-four Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia have filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s decision to halt $6 billion in funding allocated for after-school programs, according to a report on Monday.

The Hill reported that the lawsuit accuses the administration of violating the Constitution and federal law by freezing funds intended for after-school programs, English lessons for non-native speakers, teacher training, arts and science education, and anti-bullying programs.

The funds, typically disbursed on July 1, were withheld without notice or a timeline for release.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said the move "will be devastating for students and families," particularly immigrant and low-income communities.

The Office of Management and Budget said the pause is part of a review to ensure funds are not used to “subsidize a radical leftwing agenda.”

"In one case, NY public schools used English Language Acquisition funds to promote illegal immigrant advocacy organizations. In another, Washington state used funds to direct illegal immigrants towards scholarships intended for American students,” a spokesperson for the Office of Management and Budget was quoted as saying.
