At least 11 people were feared dead and over 50 others injured in a stampede outside a cricket stadium in southern India on Wednesday, local media reported.

The stampede took place in Bengaluru city in Karnataka state, where an event was being held to celebrate the win of a local cricket team -- Royal Challengers Bengaluru -- in Indian Premier League championship.

Local broadcaster NDTV reported that 11 people were killed in the stampede as thousands of people rushed to the Chinnaswamy Stadium to attend the celebrations.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the crowd was "uncontrollable."
