Netflix ends PS3 gaming console support end of a 16-year era
Netflix has ended support for the PS3 gaming console, as confirmed by the in-app warning and its removal from the list of compatible devices
ANKARA
Netflix will discontinue support for its streaming app on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) effective March 2, 2026, marking the end of one of the platform’s longest-running console integrations.
PS3 users have begun receiving an in-app notification stating that Netflix will no longer be available on the device after the cutoff date, directing customers to the company’s compatible devices page. Although Netflix has not issued a major standalone press release, the on-screen warning and the console’s removal from the supported devices list confirm the decision.
The move has been widely reported by technology and gaming outlets, with users sharing screenshots and reactions across online forums. In addition to the PS3, several older smart TVs—generally more than a decade old—and certain legacy set-top boxes are also expected to lose Netflix support around the same time. Some reports estimate that up to 87–90 million older devices could be affected globally.
Netflix first launched streaming on the PS3 in November 2009 in the United States via a special Blu-ray disc, later transitioning to a native app in October 2010. As one of the earliest gaming consoles to support the service, the PS3 maintained compatibility for more than 16 years, making it one of Netflix’s longest-supported platforms on any console.
The announcement has sparked widespread nostalgia online, with many users describing the change as “the end of an era”.
