WASHINGTON

A leading American travel magazine has named Istanbul the "Best Leisure Destination in Europe."

The winners of Global Traveler’s 10th Leisure Lifestyle Awards were announced Wednesday during a ceremony at the Lotos Club in New York City.

Istanbul was followed by Lisbon, Portugal and Krakow, Poland.

With nearly half a million monthly readers, Global Traveler is a magazine for the frequently traveling business and luxury elite.

It also awarded Istanbul Airport "The Best Airport for Layovers" and "The Best Family-Friendly International Airport." Communications Director Gokhan Sengul received the awards on behalf of the airport.
