In Europe, Serbia reports highest new COVID-19 cases per million people

BELGRADE, Serbia

Serbia placed first in Europe and fourth in the world in terms of the number of new COVID-19 cases per million inhabitants over the last seven days, according to data-tracking website Worldometer.

With 5,509 newly infected per million inhabitants, Serbia overtook Montenegro (4,976), followed by Lithuania (3,783) and the UK (3,552), according to the latest data.

Among the top 10 countries were two from former Yugoslavia: Slovenia in the eighth and Croatia in the 10th place.

Globally, Serbia is only behind New Caledonia, Bermuda and the island nation of Antigua and Barbuda.

In the last seven days, a total of 47,897 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Serbia.
