Tally of coronavirus cases in Oman tops 68,000
COVID-19 cases rise to over 57,100 in UAE, more than 36,400 in Bahrain
ISTANBUL
Health authorities in Gulf countries on Monday recorded additional deaths and more infections by the novel coronavirus.
Oman’s Health Ministry said eight people had died from COVID-19, while 1,739 others contracted the disease over the past 24 hours.
The country’s case count to date now rose to 68,400 cases, including 326 deaths and 45,150 recoveries.
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Health Ministry reported one fatality and 271 new cases, bringing the overall figure to date to 57,193 cases, including 340 deaths and 49,621 recoveries.
In Bahrain, three people died from the virus over the past 24 hours, while a total of 418 fresh infections were recorded, according to the country’s Health Ministry.
The Gulf state’s tally to date now stands at 36,422 cases, including 128 deaths and 32,372 recoveries.
In Kuwait, the Health Ministry said it registered 559 fresh cases, pushing the total to 59,763, including 408 deaths, and 50,339 recoveries.
Since first appearing in China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.
The pandemic has killed nearly 607,000 people worldwide, with more than 14.5 million confirmed cases, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
The number of recoveries from the pandemic across the globe has topped 8.18 million.
