Iran announced on Saturday that it executed two individuals linked to the opposition People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI) group, according to Iranian media.

Ebul Hasan Muntazer and Vahid Beni Amiriyan were executed on charges of "rebellion," membership in a "terrorist organization," and “threatening public security,” the judiciary said in a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

They were also accused of "propaganda and harassment activities" in line with the PMOI's objectives, the statement said, according to the report.

The PMOI was established in 1965 with the aim of overthrowing Iran's then-Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, tensions between the PMOI and the new Iranian government escalated, leading to the organization being designated as a terrorist organization by Iran in 1981.
