Costa Rica defeated Italy 1-0 in 2014 FIFA World Cup Group D match played at Arena Pernambuco, Recife on Friday.
Costa Rican forward Bryan Ruiz's header in the 44th minute made his team advance to round 16 in the World Cup.
Costa Rica managed to beat the odds among their opponents by winning two matches out of three so far despite being considered one of the weakest links in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in group D. Others in group D include Italy, England and Uruguay.
Italy, who lost to Costa Rica, will be playing a vital match against Uruguay on June 24. Both sides are going to take on each other to qualify for the next round in the World Cup.
Meanwhile England, who are at the bottom of the group without any points, have been eliminated in the group stages of 2014 FIFA World Cup. 'The Three Lions' will play a consolation match against group leaders Costa Rica on June 24.
