US suspends strategic dialogue with Kosovo over actions of caretaker government
Washington says steps taken by Prime Minister Kurti’s government have heightened tensions and undermined progress

BELGRADE, Serbia
The US announced Friday that it had indefinitely suspended its planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo, saying actions by the caretaker government have raised tensions and instability, limiting Washington’s ability to work productively with Pristina on joint priorities.
In a statement from the US Embassy in Pristina, Washington stressed that while the dialogue is on hold, the United States remains committed to advancing shared interests with the people of Kosovo.
The embassy emphasized that relations are built on a common goal of strengthening peace and stability as the basis for mutual economic prosperity.
The statement said that “recent actions and statements by Caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti have posed challenges to progress made over many years,” as such developments have undermined the environment necessary for a constructive partnership.
The strategic dialogue had been designed as a platform to expand bilateral economic cooperation, enhance diplomatic engagement, and align long-term policy.
According to the embassy, the initiative was also meant to serve as a symbol of Washington’s support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic path and its integration into broader international frameworks.
US officials said they hope to resume such efforts in the future when conditions allow, stressing that they are aware this remains a priority for the people of Kosovo.
