UK Embassy in Egypt reopens following brief shutdown over diplomatic tensions

ISTANBUL

The British Embassy reopened in Cairo on Tuesday after a 2-day closure over diplomatic tensions between Egypt and the UK.

“Following engagement with the Egyptian authorities, our Travel Advice has been updated. The British Embassy remains open and continues to offer a full range of services,” the embassy said in a statement on the US social media company X.

The UK had shut down its embassy on Saturday after the Egyptian authorities removed security barriers outside the building. The move was a sign of protest by Egypt over a lack of security measures to protect Egypt’s embassy building during recent protests in London.
