Spanish Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo will be visiting Washington, DC on Monday to strengthen bilateral ties with the US and support the ongoing trade negotiations between the EU and White House.

During his visit, Cuerpo will meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and American business leaders with interests in Spain, Spanish daily Articulo 14 reported.

The trip is closely coordinated with the European Commission and follows recent talks between EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and US officials, according to the report.

"We've always stressed the importance of extending a hand to negotiate. We have much to protect," Cuerpo told journalists before the trip, highlighting the significance of the EU-US trade relationship.

The visit comes amid a temporary 90-day tariff truce, during which both sides aim to reach a balanced agreement.

Cuerpo emphasized the unity among EU member states, noting strong backing for the commission’s efforts, as reaffirmed in recent meetings of EU trade and finance ministers.

He also underlined Spain's growing economic ties with the US.

"We want to make the most of this visit to reinforce both our role in the EU negotiations and our bilateral relationship with the United States," he said, adding that American interest in investing in Spain is on the rise.
