Slovenia on Tuesday strongly condemned the Israeli airstrike in Qatar, describing it as an attack on the Gulf nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement on social media, the Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with Doha, praising its role as a key mediator in talks for a ceasefire Gaza.

“Slovenia strongly condemns the attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar. We express solidarity with Qatar and call for full respect for international law,” the ministry said.

Ljubljana stressed that Qatar’s mediation efforts remain crucial for reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and emphasized the importance of safeguarding diplomatic initiatives in the region.

Israel's military said it conducted a “precise strike targeting the senior leadership” of the Palestinian group, as explosions were heard in Doha.

A Hamas source told Al Jazeera that the strike occurred while a delegation was meeting to discuss a US-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza.
