Only 8% of Poles think Warsaw prepared for war with Moscow: Survey

ISTANBUL

Only 8% of Poles think that their country is prepared for a possible war with Russia, according to a survey by the IBRiS market.

The survey found that only 8% of Poles believe Poland is prepared for a war with Russia, and just 9% think the country's armed forces are "sufficiently equipped" for such a conflict, Polish state-run TVP World reported.

It also revealed that half of the public supports increasing the defense spending, and 75% suggest that NATO should reinforce its eastern flank.

Only 12% of the respondents considered a Russian attack on Poland likely, while 15% viewed an attack on the Baltic states as a "realistic possibility."

If another European NATO member were attacked by Russia, 67% of respondents said Poland should provide assistance, while 57% believed the US would support Poland in the event of an armed aggression from Moscow.

In the meantime, the survey revealed that 52% of Poles think they should support Ukraine on international forums, but 35% support the continuation of economic support to Kyiv.

Support among Poles for Ukraine’s NATO membership stood at 37%, with a comparable 35% backing Kyiv’s bid to join the EU.

However, only 15% believed Poland should deploy peacekeeping troops to Ukraine if a peace agreement were reached, while 64% opposed the idea.
