Nottingham attacker remanded in custody on murder charges
Valdo Calocane, former student of the University of Nottingham, makes appearance at Nottingham Magistrates' Court

LONDON
A triple murder suspect was remanded in custody on Saturday by magistrates following a series of attacks in Nottingham that resulted in the deaths of two students and a school caretaker, British media reported.
The accused, Valdo Calocane, 31, who identified himself as Adam Mendes, appeared in Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday accompanied by three security officers.
Calocane, a former University of Nottingham student, is charged with the murders of first-year students Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, as well as Ian Coates, a school caretaker in his 60s.
They were fatally stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday and three others were hit by Coates's van, which the attacker stole.
The University of Nottingham previously said it was "shocked and devastated" as it revealed Webber and Kumar were their students.
In a statement, University of Nottingham's vice-chancellor Shearer West said: "The university is supporting the students' family and friends, and our security team is working closely with Nottinghamshire police and the authorities to support the ongoing investigation into the incident."
