Liberal candidate Rafal Trzaskowski on Sunday won a narrow victory with 30.8% of the vote in the 1st round of Polish presidential elections, according to an exit poll.
Trzaskowski, mayor of Warsaw, who was supported by Prime Minister Donald Tusk's centrist Civic Platform, was followed by conservative nationalist PiS party candidate Karol Nawrocki with 29.1%, according to an Ipsos poll broadcast by public broadcaster TVP.
With a turnout rate at 66.8%, Slawomir Mentzen of the far-right Confederation alliance came third with 15.4% of the vote.
As no candidate was able to secure the majority of votes, the country will head to a runoff between the two top contenders.
