Israel's ambassador to Germany: We will respond by targeting Iran’s military installations

BERLIN

Israel’s ambassador to Germany on Tuesday said his country will respond to last weekend’s Iranian air attacks by targeting its military facilities.

The Israeli response will be directed “against these military installations of the mullahs and the ayatollahs,” Ron Prosor told the WELT TV network.

“We have to react to it. It is also important for the region that this deterrence – including in this region – is very clear," he said, adding that the War Cabinet would decide when, where, and how to do it.

His comments come amid frantic international diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said she would head to Israel later in the day for high-level talks on how to de-escalate the Iran conflict.

It is “incredibly important that we all work together to de-escalate in the entire region. I will therefore travel to Israel again today for talks,” Baerbock told a joint news conference with her Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al-Safadi.

“I will assure our Israeli partners of Germany's full solidarity and we will talk about how further escalation with more and more violence can be prevented. It is now important to stop Iran without encouraging further escalation,” she added.

A staunch ally of Israel, Germany strongly condemned the Iranian air attack on the Jewish state over the weekend.
