Irregular workers at an Olympic construction site in Paris went on strike Tuesday, according to media reports.

The group of approximately 200 workers walked off their jobs at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in the 18th district of Paris, said the Parisien newspaper.

The CNT-SO trade union that represents the irregular workers wrote on X that the workers are complaining about working conditions and "exploitation."

The workers want to be regularized ahead of a parliamentary debate on a new immigration law. No date has been set for the procedure.

The new immigration law plans to reduce the immigration influx in France but regularize some migrants working in specific sectors that suffer from workers.

The site will have a capacity of 8,000 seats.

Irregular workers' distress

The Liberation newspaper in January found that workers were being paid around €80 ($84.4) per day without official declaration, social security or a day off.

Anadolu interviewed a group of workers at the time who were under contract but complained about poor working conditions, low wages and high risks.
