ERZURUM, Türkiye

A historic Russian church in Türkiye’s eastern Erzurum province was restored to its original form based on archival paintings.

Built by Russian architect Mihaylovich Verbitsky in 19th century architecture, the historic church is estimated to have been built in the 40-year period between the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War and the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

The iconic church is located on an area of 480 square meters in the city’s Oltu district.

As part of the project prepared by the governorship and municipality, and launched in 2018 with the support of the Northeast Anatolia Development Agency (KUDAKA), the restoration of the church started in 2019 and concluded in four years.
