France defeated Portugal 5 - 3 on penalties Friday to advance to the UEFA EURO 2024 semifinals.

Neither side was able to produce a goal in the 90 minutes at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion.

Extra time ended in a goalless draw and the quarterfinal match went to penalties.

France's Ousmane Dembele, Youssouf Fofana, Jules Kounde, Bradley Barcola and Theo Hernandez converted their kicks.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva Ok and Nuno Mendes converted for Portugal but Joao Felix was the only player to miss his penalty against France.

France will face Spain on July 9.
