AMSTERDAM / LONDON

Demonstrators in Amsterdam rallied Tuesday to protest US and German authorities for their decisions to deport pro-Palestine activists.

Protesters from various non-governmental organizations gathered outside the German Consulate General in solidarity with pro-Palestinian activists who are facing deportation.

The demonstration, led by the Erev Rav a Jewish collective, criticized the decision by Germany to deport four activists.

Protesters accused Germany of using immigration laws as a "political weapon," and argued that the practice violates freedom of expression as well as the European Union's freedom of movement principle as three of the accused are EU citizens.

Anna Joseph, head of Erev Rav, told Anadolu that Germany, the US and Greece are trying to silence solidarity with Palestine by using immigration laws.

"They are targeting our friends who are immigrants and trying to silence them," she noted.

Commenting on video footage showing the arrest of Turkish student Rumeysa Ozturk in the US last month by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents, Joseph said it was a "terrifying video for all of us."

She said it was an example of oppression the collective had seen in the US and the "same tactics" used in apartheid in South Africa.

The Berlin Four, three EU citizens and one American, have campaigned against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. They are facing deportation in Germany, although none have been convicted of a crime.
